Album Review

An affectionate tribute to the romantic and dramatic Andalusian coplas he grew up with, Pasión Española is the 2008 release from legendary tenor Plácido Domingo. Recorded at Teatro Albeniz with the backing of the Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid and Miguel Roa, the nostalgic album, which Domingo describes as 13 mini-operas, feature songs originally written between 1930 and 1950 by Manuel Lopez-Quiroga Miquel, Antonio Alvarez Alonso, and Juan Mostazo Morales, AND made famous by the likes of Concha Piquer, Imperio Argentina, and Lola Flores. ~ Jon O'Brien, Rovi

Romantic and Timeless

Tenor great Placido Domingo pays tribute to the Spanish coplas of his youth. Think of it as a Buena Vista Social Club-moment in the hands of an opera great! Perfect on a warm summer's night with some tapas, paella, and many glasses of sangria. Throw open the windows, dream of the passionate Spain of lore, grab your love, look into her ojos verdes, and shimmy and stroll...the Maestro takes us there!
