Notas editoriales de iTunes

The four albums Fairport Convention released in 1969 and 1970 are cornerstones of the U.K. folk-rock movement, and this concise collection cherry-picks some of the best tunes from each, along with Fairport frontwoman Sandy Denny's signature solo song "Who Knows Where the Time Goes" and a non-LP single (the hymnlike "Now Be Thankful"). With Denny's soulful pipes and wunderkind Richard Thompson's fluid-but-forceful guitar lines leading the way, the band added a rock edge to traditional folk songs like "Matty Groves" and contemporary folk tunes like Bob Dylan's "Percy's Song."

Fairport Convention's Best!

"Now Be Thankful" that "The Top Ten" tunes by Fairport Convention are all in one easily accessible album! Never a band to "make it big" in the States, the various members of Fairport are still "Convening "to release excellent music some 35+ years on! The ethereal vocals of the late, great Sandy Denny combined with the elegaic lead guitar of Richard Thompson and backed by a top-notch band, they should have been more sucessful outside of their native England. But every musician and fine music fan I have played their records for has raved about them! {The LP's "Leige and Leaf" & "Unhalfbricking" should be remastered and re-released!} Having said that, the good people at 20th Century Masters have put out many a fine "Best Of" package from several popular and not-as-well-known groups. To have "Matty Groves" and "Sloth" on the same album is a "Trad-Folk-Rocker's" dream come true! "Come All Ye" scoundrels & rovers and "Be Thankful" for this set! Grimmbo.

Pay the Piper his dues

Truely a historical band that is amazing in it's own rights. Those that would lift the banners of Buffy Saint Marie, Jethro Tull and Steeleye Span would do well to give these wonderful songs a place in your hallowed library.

It's Basic and Okay

Some of the great basic ones are there. But instead of "Sloth", I would have put in "She Moved Through The Fair", from What We Did On Our Holiday. And instead of "Crazy Man Michael", I would have put in "Tam Lin" from Lief and Lieg. The singer, by the way, is Sandy Denny, who was with the group for a few albums, and did some great work on her own.

The best British folk-rock band of the late '60s, Fairport Convention did more than any other act to develop a truly British variation on the folk-rock prototype by drawing upon traditional material and styles indigenous to the British Isles. While the revved-up renditions of traditional British folk tunes drew the most critical attention, the group members were also (at least at the outset) talented songwriters as well as interpreters. They were comfortable with conventional harmony-based folk-rock...
