Upbeat Fun

I saw these guys at the Aspen Jazz fest in 1990. Had never heard of them before that, but they had so much energy and spirit on stage that I bought their then current album. It's upbeat, energetic, and fun. It's happy music, which I find hard to come by. I have a few albums that I can just listen to over and over and over, and this is one of them. I really love this album.

Fantaastic, hip jazz fusion

Back in the early days of my radio career, I had the good fortune to encounter this album and was delighted to find it here. Cheerful music, expertly executed.

The funky jazz group Manteca formed in Canada around 1979. Members of the large formation included percussionists and drummers Charlie Cooley and Matt Zimbel, trumpet men Rick Tait and Steve McDade, percussionist and banjo picker Art Avalos, bassist Henry Heillig, saxophonists John Johnson and Phil Dwyer, and keyboardist Gordon Sheard.
