Album Review

Missouri's Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin pulled off a passable, if fun, debut in 2005/2006 with Broom, while the follow-up, Pershing, resembles the indie-hipster version of a college-guy jam band. They sing lyrics like "Yeah, you're right but you'll be dead right/Yeah, you look alright, but you're dead, right?" on "Dead Right," and rhyme "oceanographer" with "court stenographer," "news photographer," and "map cartographer" ("Oceanographer"), the latter of which actually is rather redundant. Although the melodies are hard to remember once the songs end, they can occasionally be catchy, as on "Think I Wanna Die" and "Glue Girls."

come on!

broom was an amazing album. it had its pop, but it also had darker indie rock in it. this whole album is one big pop song. there's no song like "anna lee" or "house fire." the whole cd is lacking of any musical substance. the fact that sslyby said that alot of these songs were written from their high school days might have something to do with it. if this had been sslyby's first album then i would have been pleased because the songs are catchy and fun, but thats it, while broom had much more substance to it, and was not just a bunch a la di da sing alongs.good luck on their next try

Pershing

(taken from press info) Their follow-up to the critically acclaimed "Broom" (sold over 20,000 copies). SSLYBY have shared stages with Mute Math, Of Montreal, Sound Team, Catfish Haven, and Chin Up Chin Up, to name a few. Spin declared them the band that "could succeed The Shins" and enthusiastic press rolled in. Now, they're raising the bar even higher with "Pershing". Quirky chord changes amid massive hooks and addictive melodies. The band's songs have appeared in various films, commercials, and TV shows, including "The O.C.".

Since When Did The Beatles Make A New CD?

Glue Girls is power pop at its finest, Boring Fountain is the best song title ever, Dead Right is the dead first song on the CD, The Beach Song is the sleeper hit, Modern Mystery is an old gem that finally got itself a makeover, Some Constellation is the best stalker song since sting, Think I Wanna Die is Think I Wanna Jam, You Could Write A Book is sslyby attacking a new front, Oceanographer talks to other girls, Heers has me feeling like a kid on halloween No band does it so well so easily. If you haven't heard about them just wait, you will

The three original members of Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin — lead guitarist Will Knauer, drummer Philip Dickey, and bassist Tom Hembree — met in high school in Springfield, Missouri, and soon formed a pop band.
