iTunes Review

New Orleans–raised trumpeter Terence Blanchard has secured a reputation for his film-scoring work over the last two decades, but for Magnetic he heads back to his jazz roots with 10 original compositions. Peppered by guest appearances from legendary bassist Ron Carter and a fellow Blue Note Records artist—saxophonist Ravi Coltrane—Blanchard showcases his range, easing from the subtle lament of "Jacob's Ladder" to the peppy and angular "Don't Run." The album is capped by the fiery "Time to Spare," which interweaves Blanchard's bop-based horn attack with Fabian Almazan's elegant piano work.

Terrence is back and BLOWING with this group. I'm glad he finally bumped his head this is what he should playing like. I know CLIFFORD, DIZ, LEE, KENNY, and MILES are smiling ear to ear hearing this. Tom me he incorporates a little of all their styles on this cd, as well as making it sound like a downsized MESSENGERS BAND. As far as I'm concerned this is the best JAZZ CD OF THE YEAR SO FAR. All praise to Terrence and the guys, I hope he keep a BEBOP'N like this, and maybe he and Donald can hook up for a part TWO.
