EDITORS’ NOTES

After putting their own melodic spin on progressive metal with 2016’s Nocturnal Masquerade, New Jersey quintet Toothgrinder have expanded their sound dramatically with their second album. Electronic backing tracks fuse with nu-metal grooves on opener “Hvy,” “The Shadow,” and the politically charged “Red” as frontman Justin Matthews’ voice shifts from extreme roar to breathy, clean singing. He even practically raps on “Let It Ride,” which also features a dazzlingly off-kilter guitar solo. Acoustic love song “Jubilee” and the plaintive, shimmering title track complete a true metamorphosis.

Excited!

Ghost Of Mbenga

So far so good! Their first one took me by surprise. Encouraged by these two new tracks so far.

Hopeful

"Blue" is still their only good and heavy song IMO. Hopefully the whole album isn't soft like the singles. I want to like these guys because "Blue" was what I first heard. Let's hope there's at least a few heavy songs on this new album.

THE YEAR OF THE TOOTH!!

This album is LOADED!
Toothgrinder has reached another level with this release, don’t be surprised when they take over!

About Toothgrinder

A punishing hard rock outfit based out of Asbury Park, New Jersey, Toothgrinder employ a lethal mix of melody and muscle that incorporates elements of post-grunge, post-hardcore, and groove metal. Founded in 2010 and featuring the talents of vocalist Justin Matthews, bassist Matt Arensdorf, drummer Wills Weller, and guitarists Jason Goss and Johnuel Hasney, Toothgrinder dropped a trio of EPs (Turning of the Tides, Vibration/Colour/Frequency, and Schizophrenic Jubilee) before unleashing their Spinefarm Records-issued full-length debut, Nocturnal Masquerade, in 2016, which featured a guest vocal by Periphery's Spencer Sotelo. A sophomore effort, Phantom Armour, arrived the following year, again via Spinefarm. ~ James Christopher Monger
