Finally! Itunes got the Canadian cast of phantom on here! My only complainnt is that it does not have 'Angel of Music', a favoite of mine, and I paid nearly $20 for this at Barnes and Noble! It was worth it though. I honestly don't know what all the complaining is about. Every one is entitled to their own oppinion, but I personally think this is 10x better that the film soundtrack (I don't really care for any of their voices, particularly Emmy's--Sorry!), and equal to the London cast. Rebecca Caine is arguably one of the best Christine's ever, and Colm Wilkinson is a very different and interesting portrayal of the title roll, although I do think his Jean Valjean is a bit better. Overall I would rcommend 'Think of Me' (in my opinion, the best version), 'The Phantom of the Opera', 'The Music of the Night', 'All I Ask of You', and 'Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again'. But if you are a big Phan, buy the whole album.
This is one of the most solid recordings of Phantom. Not only from the clarity of the sound, but the Canadian production was known during it's run to be the strongest and best production worldwide. The auctioneer, Carlotta (played by Lyse Guerin), Colm as Phantom, .. brilliant. You do not purchase and compare to Michael Crawford, as everyone is different. This is definitely a keeper, and one of my favourite Phantom recordings. The Masquerade.. solid, clear, the voices.. great recording!
Presenting the "WAIT, WHOA--ITUNES ACTUALLY HAS THIS!?" Award
I was pleasantly surprised...no, pleasantly shocked to find that the original Canadian cast's recording is on iTunes. I saw this many years ago at the Pantegeas Theater (apparently called the Cannon Theater now, last I heard), and it was my fist time I saw the show live. I still remember it fondly even after all these years. Colm Wilkinson's Phantom has a hauntingly beautiful voice, not to mention Rebecca Caine's Christine. Strangely enough, my only complaint is also my biggest praise for the CD--the actors, in this recording, perform the songs as though they were on stage. This is great for people like me who saw the show live and want to remember it, but probably annoying to everyone else. Nevertheless, this is a great recording and I completley reccomend it!
