iTunes Review

Recorded in Woodstock, NY, in July 2008, Live catches Phoebe Snow delivering a typically eclectic set filled with humor, fire and tenderness. The singer/songwriter’s talents seem undiminished as she effortlessly glides up and down her amazing vocal range. Snow touches upon all phases of her career, contrasting the wistfulness of her 1974 breakthrough hit “Poetry Man” with the cooking rhythm of “Shakey Ground” and the positive vibe of “Natural Wonder.” Especially moving is her rendition of “You’re My Girl,” written for her daughter, who had passed away earlier that year. She puts an individual stamp on such familiar tunes as “It’s All In the Game” and “With a Song In My Heart,” embellishing each lyric with elegant, subtle phrasing. The droll show biz story she uses to introduce her revelatory remake of “Piece of My Heart” is yet another high point. Snow’s band — featuring such fine players as bassist Bob Glaub and guitarist Roger Butterley — supports her with nuanced playing throughout. Live was the final album released during Snow’s lifetime.

Opened my horizons

I was actually fortunate enough to work on the crew for this album recording and let me tell you it was a wonderful experience. Phoebe is an amazing person and I was able to sit down to lunch with her. I will tell you working with her was a life changing experience and I would not trade it for anything in the world. There are few words in the English language that will be able to truly define the brilliance of this album. I still get shivers when I think about the performance.

Thank God for Phoebe Snow

One of the finest voices ever to grace us, a natural talent and a wonderful voice, a true artist, in this world of non-singing girls who rack up hit after hit, its wonderful to have Miss Snow back with us, she never went away as you could find her distinctive voice classing up television commercials.....this is a wonderful collection of her best work done live, I saw her years ago, and loved her and am so happy to report the voice is back, the longing in her voice in Poetry Man to the strength of the blues/rock tracks....the tone of her voice and depth and richness are so welcome ...what can I say, I LOVE HER

Beautiful name, beautiful voice

I hope the younger generation of today takes a chance to listen to Phoebe's beautiful voice, you'd discover just how much her gift can become an instrument all its own. "Poetry Man", yes, was perhaps her biggest hit, but Snow has a range in musical genre's almost as wide as her vocal range. "Shakey Ground" was another that caught my ear shortly after she first released it. I never had the opportunity to catch her in concert, so I'm grateful iTunes had the good taste to deliver this live album (it's cool to hear her weave some stories behind the songs here, too).
