First, I think the reviewer who can't concentrate long enough to listen to some 'plain ol' Grieg' doesn't need to be listening to classical music. Maybe some Justin Timberlake would be better suited for him. This is a great album. The sound is good and the Decca Legends label doesn't disappoint. Mr. Lupu's interpretation of Grieg's Concerto in A minor is the best I've ever heard. A great buy!
Early Superb Lupu Album
Another transcendent, crystal-clear interpretation by Saint Lupu, the larger-than-life virtuoso who just keeps on tickin'... Grieg wasn't the most even composer, but his piano works have always fascinated. Radu Lupu transforms the unabashed romanticism from an "in-your-face" sound to something more beautiful and meditative than even perhaps old Grieg ever imagined it to be. Definitely worth a buy for any Saint Lupu devotee. I really rate this and the 8 impromptus as amongst his greatest performances over the years.
I can't add much more to the previous two positive reviews except to say, no matter how many times I listen to Lupu's piano concert in A Minor, Op. 16 I feel a transcendence, an emotional swirl that's musically second to none. He delivers as few can do. Bravo!
