After wowing audiences in London, Tokyo, and New York with recitals of all the Mozart sonatas, Mitsuko Uchida recorded the entire cycle that was ultimately featured in the authoritative Complete Mozart Edition issued on the bicentenary of the composer's death. The Sonata No. 11 is justifiably the most beloved of these cornerstones of the piano repertory, featuring the beautiful opening theme and variations and the universally recognizable "Rondo Alla Turca." Sonatas Nos. 8, 16 (a recital favorite), and 18 round out a program that belongs in the library of any Mozart lover.
I can not believe I'am the first to review this album.
In my opinion, if you enjoy Mozart piano you will enjoy this recording. While I'm not, by any means, a classical aficionado, Mitsuko Uchida's technical ability is unmatched, particularly in Allegro Maestroso. I can listen to the entire record, start to finish, repeatedly.
Sonata no. 16 ( Sonata Facile ) is a piece I have been hearing since I was a Kid.
I feel like now is when I fully realize how absolutely great it is as a composition, and that is because this is the best interpretation I have heard of it. The keys are not pounded like other versions. I have to hear other recordings by this pianist.
