Grammy award winning album,... excellent jazz

I own this album and I enjoy it everytime I listen to it. It is a classic. Dianne Reeves' best yet. I first listened to it during the movie (it integrates very well with the environment in the movie). Very powerful voice that delivers great performance. Here are my favorites: - Pick yourself up: an upbeat song with latin jazzy drums mixed with lively jazz... excellent to start your day and picks you up when you're feeling down - Straighten up and fly right: the best version of this song I've heard,... very powerful voice, somewhat slower than other versions though, perhaps to emphasize the strong delivery of Dianne - TV is the thing this year: lively song... when the TV was new... I guess you can replace TV now with iPod, plasma TV, ... etc and the radio with TV and it would work well, - How High the Moon: the best version I've heard of this song (I have Ella's and Sarah Vaughan's versions, both are more lively, but I like Dianne's best, that is more sombre and stronger) - You're Driving Me Crazy: nice short one,... I sing it to my kids when 'they drive me crazy' :-) - I've Got My Eyes On You: Dianne sings with passion - One for My Baby: they don't do songs like this anymore... merely a bass in the background and Dianne powerful amazing voice is carrying the whole song - When I Fall In Love: very nice romantic instrumental - Gotta be this or that: very simple and straight forward delivery... she makes it seem so easy - ... the others are also pretty good, Overall, excellent album all around and very deserving of the Grammy award for Best Jazz Vocal Album. Two thumbs way up... very much worth it PS: Some of the links to this album (e.g., from the Oscar's soundtracks) are broken... iTunes people should fix it.

Simply Spectacular

While watching the well-crafted film, “Good Night and Good Luck”, I realized that I was struck, in almost equal measure, by the music. I purchased the album on iTunes within one hour of completing the film. The musical score, a perfect complement to such a moving film, is nothing less than outstanding. Dianne Reeves is simply spectacular. This album is destined to become a classic and would surely enhance anyone's jazz collection.

Fitting Music

I do not own the music -- but loved the movie. Dianne Reeves brilliantly sings the music of the times -- 'breaks' in the movie -- like 'TV is the Thing This Year' --- phenomenal.

Born: October 23, 1956 in Detroit, MI

Genre: Jazz

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s

Dianne Reeves has been one of the top singers in jazz ever since the late '80s. A logical successor to Dinah Washington and Carmen McRae (although even she can't reach the impossible heights of Ella and Sarah Vaughan), Reeves is a superior interpreter of lyrics and a skilled scat singer. She was a talented vocalist with an attractive voice even as a teenager when she sang and recorded with her high school band. She was encouraged by Clark Terry, who had her perform with him while she was a college...
