Reseña de álbum

The Dead Can Dance progression continues with this video release, which starts out with a video for "Yulunga (Spirit Dance)" from Into the Labyrinth and then moves into a film of the live performance at the Mayfair in Santa Monica that forms the basis for the live album release. This is Dead Can Dance in confident form, performing a mixture of new material and standard repertoire, intercut with interview footage. It's intriguing to watch, though most will probably be more satisfied, on a repeat basis, with the album.

Pretension or dedication to artistry?

A reviewer on another DCD album called them pretentious, but I seriously think that Lisa and Brendan would find that concept amusing. When you see the earnestness with which they approached their artistry in the interviews in this movie, you will know they had no conscious proclivity toward pretension. They truly immersed themselves into the art of making music which was not limited by anyone else's boundaries. This work shows the genius which resulted from that process, and I, for one, will be eternally grateful for their inspiration. "Toward the Within' is a must-have! Buy it!

Powerful Live Experience

Toward The Within is a ferocious live album, beautifully recorded and produced. Worth buying for "American Dreaming" alone - one of the greatest songs ever written. Take a chance, you won't be disappointed!

Dead can dance-nothing like them ever

I am shocked...shocked...that there is only one review for this album. It is one of the greatest musical pieces ever. I am in love with this album. Anyone I've introduced this to is also kidnapped & held hostage. The ambient, worldly sound is hypnotic. Every song is a bit different. This is my fave but "into the labyrinth" is very good. Do yourself a favorite and check it out. Start with American Dreaming abruptly go into the next song, Cantara. Trace back to Rakim then Yulunga. You'll then see recognize Lisa Gerrard musical influence in Gladiator and other soundtracks. Please...Enjoy!

Dead Can Dance combine elements of European folk music — particularly music from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance — with ambient pop and worldbeat flourishes. Their songs are of lost beauty, regret and sorrow, inspiration and nobility, and of the everlasting human goal of attaining a meaningful existence. Over the course of their career, Dead Can Dance have featured a multitude of members, but two musicians have remained at the core of the band — guitarist Brendan Perry and...
