Very, Very Talented Guitarist

I appreciate shred albums for what they are: a display of playing ability. That's where I draw the line. Do you every here Satch opening songs shredding or is a melodic passage? He has an emotional melody and adds beautiful solos that move the listener. That's the difference between Rusty Cooley and Satch. I think Rusty Cooley is killer player, but the sweep arpeggio stuff wears me out. Songs: "Dominion" and "The Machine" are the best on this album. They are complete songs where the guitars are only a part.

The guy can play...

...but he can't write music. I know a lot of people who can play like this. It comes from practice. So it's nothing special. What sets guys like Rusty apart from Vai, Zappa, Satch, Petruccie, etc. (even at times Malmsteen) is that they have musicality. This more or less sounds like metal warmup. There isn't anything to keep you listening. So, two stars for the sake that at least this guy can play his instrument in an era of music defined by low expectations and lack of talent.

ive heard them all

He is an 8 string virtuso. His new band is Outworld. Line up Lynch, Yngwie, Tony Maclpine, Vai or Satch, Ryan Formato, Batio, throw in Petrucci. He eats them all! I am a huge fan of all those listed. They can't touch him.I would love to see Yngnwie pick up an 8 string guitar for good measure. I am a old school heavy metal/prog listener so I know good metal when I hear it, This guy is worth listening to.
