Album Review

Pink Guy — the Lycra-wearing character created by Japanese-Australian comedian and musician George "Joji" Miller for his online comedy series The Filthy Frank Show — gets his moment in the spotlight with 2016's Pink Season. Featuring songwriting by Miller and production from Josh Pan, RyanJacob, and Holder, Pink Season includes tracks primarily influenced by trap rap, but also adds ukulele ditties and downtempo electronic (reflecting his more serious songwriting when performing under the Joji moniker). At turns tastelessly offensive and sophomoric, Pink Season also highlights Miller's satirical wit, delivering biting statements regarding race, politics, and culture. The album topped download charts and climbed to number 76 on the Billboard 200. ~ Neil Z. Yeung, Rovi
