5 Star Review - The Telegraph / 92 out of 100 "Phenomenal" Review - Paste Magazine

This is an outstanding album, plain and simple

“Jame’s lyrics are marvelously evocative, covering everything from labour relations in the ‘20s (opener Coal War, which starts like Paul Simon’s Homeless) to God (the hushed Lawn Full Of Marigolds includes the kind of self-laceration you don’t get on Cliff Richard’s songs).”
- Q Magazine (UK) - 4 star review of “Build Me This”

“Though the sound is bigger than a folk record, the dark lyrics are wrapped in familiar Americana. The instrumentation is meticulous—nothing sounds out-of-place, especially the aching pedal steel, which is used with remarkable restraint. Build Me This is convincing from its opening line - “I ain’t cutting my hair till the good lord comes” - through its solemn last words: “I’ve given up.”
- Paste Magazine - 92 out of 100 "Phenomenal" rating for "Build Me This"

"Armed with impeccable instincts, elegant melodies and heady emotions, James manages to create songs that combine acoustic intimacy with swirling walls of sounds"
-The Telegraph (UK) - 5 star review of "Build Me This"

“…an album themed almost biblically, around the mystique of the US landscape and history. It is composed of songs and is melodic, thoughtful, passionate and highly textured”
- The Independent (on Sunday) (UK)

Too Many

Way way way too many amazing songs on this album to narrow it down... But if I had to pick a few for someone to listen to, to get them hooked... they would be:

Coal War (of course), Magazine, Black July, Annabelle, In the Middle, Daniel and Pitchfork...

I was so excited for JJ's new album release and this did not disappoint. One of the best!
