17 Songs, 1 Hour 15 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Leave it to someone as ambitious as Sufjan Stevens—who once pledged to write an album for every U.S. state—to help dream up a song cycle about the cosmos. Starting life as a commissioned work by the composer Nico Muhly, Planetarium pairs Muhly and Stevens with National guitarist Bryce Dessner and percussionist James McAllister for a restless, eclectic set that weaves from Auto-Tuned R&B and trombone chorales (“Mars”) to sparkling washes of ambience (“In the Beginning”) and wide-eyed EDM (“Saturn”). It’s an indie-world take on the wonders of '70s prog.

This isn't Sufjan; it's Planetarium

For all the idiots out there judging this album harshly because it's not "old Sufjan" don't put a bad review on this album!! This isn't supposed to be another "Sufjan Stevens album". This is an album composed by multiple artists, so stop talking crap about Stevens. I for one am excited for the album and can't wait to hear the finished album. Keep up the good work guys and sorry for the hate. ❤️

Give it some credit

It’s a shame these reviews are so negative…this was from a mesmerizing live show in 2012. It’s a collaboration among talented artists. Think Holst’s planets with a new age electronic spin. I for one am captivated by this first release. But for those of you who are expecting Illinois era Sufjan, you won’t find it here.
