Customer Reviews

Pop, snap & crackle

I have purchased around 3,000 songs from the iTunes Store and this album is the first one with truly bad sound quality with persistent pop, snap & crackle sounds on every track. My own vinyl LP, which has been played numerous times, sounds far superior.

"Boo Hiss" to sound quality! Excellent album however.

Let me preface this review with the statement that this album is fantastic. Helen Reddy, always the pro, delivers passionate vocals in this dawning 80s effort; her first of only two with her new label at the time MCA. I would challenge anyone to listen to "I Can't Say Goodbye to You" without getting goosebumps. What gives this release one star is the extremely poor effort in mastering this to mp3. What iTunes is selling us is a vinyl LP, with all its pops and clicks, in this digital format. Its really a mess. Were the original masters not available? I would highly recommend listening to the samples before you buy. If you can live with the bad quality, then buy. Its a shame that such a great album is given such a poor transfer. ***As a follow up to this review I would like to implore Universal Music to make available Reddy's two MCA albums available for download with remastered tracks NOT taken from vinyl. It saddens me that such a wonderful recording as "I Can't Say Goodbye to You" is only available here in it's crackly and horridly reproduced state. Her voice deserves better distribution and treatment than this.

Consumate Rock Fan

"I Can't Say Goodbye To You" Should have been a top 40 Hit, as it fit perfectly with Helen Reddy's vocal style, but if the original LP had this poor sound quality, I could understand it only reaching #88 on the Billboard Hot 100.I mean come on I-Tunes, you are the World's largest Music Download site, you can't tell me you couldn't have found something better than a poor vinyl copy to pander. Helen Reddy's reputation deserves better than this.
