iTunes Review

Playing for Change are many things, but perhaps the core is best described as a multicultured spider web, with threads reaching to far corners of the globe and weaving together musicians in the spirit of uplift and goodwill. PFC compilations bring together musicians—from street performers to classical players—to perform classic pop songs. (All record their parts on location.) They've founded a music and arts school for kids in developing countries, and they're also a touring band. (Their most popular song and video is a cover of Ben E. King’s “Stand by Me,” with an amazing wealth and range of musical talents.) There's some real star power on PFC3, and it pays off grandly; among many stellar moments are Keith Richards’ eight-minute performance with Keb Mo and various musicians from some five different continents on Richards’ own tune “Words of Wonder” and Bob Marley’s iconic “Stand Up." Taj Mahal and Toots Hibbert collaborate on the Toots & The Maytals classic “Reggae Got Soul." And Los Lobos’ David Hidalgo and Cesar Rosas trekked from Mexico to Africa with Argentinian pop star Andres Calamaro and a cadre of some truly astounding Mexican musicians.

This project deserves 10 stars

Something, what make my day!!! Always!!! Love it!!!

Soulful, Uplifting and Impeccable

These videos are the work of genius. A classically Aquarian enterprise: musicians who create a true electronic work of art, never seeing each other, by pooling their talent into an art form inconceivable 25 years ago. Great songs, great artists, great idea and editing so impeccable they become works of art. Words of Wonder/Get Up Stand Up makes my desert island top ten, already containing One Love, Stand by Me, La Tierra del Olvido and Higher Ground. All their music positively radiates the joy of being alive and the incredible, unique musicians they recruit are no ka oi (the best).

If you can experience joy through music, these will consistently get you all the way there.

An ongoing multimedia project, Playing for Change was created in 2004 by producer/engineers Mark Johnson and Enzo Buono. Hoping to break down musical and social barriers and promote a peaceful world-view, the duo traveled around the globe recording street musicians playing the same songs with the idea of creating a pastiche of the recordings. The project's first single, a cover of Ben E. King's classic "Stand by Me," featuring the Santa Monica street performer Roger Ridley, became a YouTube sensation....
