Album Review

Tenor saxophonist Jonas Kullhammar does play loud in places, living up to the title of Plays Loud for the People. He is high-powered on the romps but is also a fine interpreter and writer of ballads; "Time Slips by Without a Word" is memorable. Assisted by his longtime rhythm section, Kullhammer performs nine group originals that cover a variety of tempos and moods. Keyboardist Torbjorn Gulz switches to tenor on "Peace 2003," and the final selection has altoist Per Johansson making the group a quintet. Despite the obscurity of these players in the United States, they hold their own with most American jazz musicians and do a fine job of invigorating the modern mainstream of jazz.

Customer Reviews

Some of the most refreshing Jazz in some time.

At least sample Bepobalulia and see for yourself. But don't let that track alone pigeon hole your view. Jonas Kullhammar is one of the best and varied talents around.
