harmonious music

Like sipping your favorite wine in front of a fire during a blackout. Lush. Contemplative.

First of all, let me say that I have seen this artist live about nine times in a wide variety of settings, and I gotta tell ya, he just gets better with age. Wikipedia says he is "a vocalist, instrumentalist, and the founder of Nightwatch Recording, which concentrates on Renaissance and Medieval music. He is considered a modern day troubador." Well, he dresses the part, chooses his music carefully and truly should be in front of a very rich Lord's fireplace in a dining hall strumming a lute with a smile and a chalice of wine. His voice has this clarity, it is unmistakable. His accompanying musicians, be they Cantiga with whom he formed The New World Renaissance Band, or soloists for shorter gigs, are just as delightful to watch perform in concert. Really, if you want to take a trip to another time, another place, another somewhere that you should have been, you need to bring one of Owain Phyfe's CD's with you. What language do you like to hear? Spanish? Choose the Lagrimas de Sangria, it is enchanting and a little saucy like the wine he sings about. French, Welsh, Italian? Where Beauty Moves and Wit Delights and Live the Legend will certainly take you there, as will Tales from the Vineyard. Odyssey. Sweet was the Song. I cannot name a favorite for they are all wonderful for their own reasons. 30 second sound bites just don't do him justice. You won't find him much in record stores, so get him right here, and have him drive you away somewhere in a creaky old carriage. I'd bet you'll hear "clip-clop-clip-clop" if you listen hard enough. One of his albums has the sound of a crying peacock from the Henry Ford estate in Dearborn where he taped it. I'll let you find out which one yourself.

Amazing, relaxing music

Owain's voice is pure magic and these songs just delight. I have had this cd for several years and it is still one of my favorites. There is not a bad song on it. Singing in various languages, Owain spins a web of lush melodies and atmosphere. Highly recommended!!!
