Heart Failure

Heart Failure

Representing for Coney Island, Brooklyn, Torae has dropped a crazy amount of material since the mid ‘90s, including dozens of singles, guest appearances, and mix-tapes. His much-anticipated solo album Daily Conversation was released in 2008, followed two years later with the excellent Double Barrel, a collaboration with Queens-via-Canada producer Marco Polo. On Heart Failure, he focuses less on wack MC-destroying and more on showing his sensitive side, with ten tracks that are all about every aspect of a relationship — the good, the bad, and the ugly. Quality production comes from DJ Spinna ("Popular Demand"), Khrysis ("Let It Go"), Superbad ("This Is" featuring Phonte) and Eric G., as Torae sounds off about love, lust, and the various highs and lows that come with the territory. If you're looking for the rough, rugged, and raw sound that he's delivered in the past, you may be slightly disappointed, but if you're down with chill beats and genuine romance rap, it doesn't get much better than this.
