Album Review

The much anticipated follow-up to 2013's critically acclaimed Wrongdoers, Polar Similar sees the hard-hitting metalcore unit hooking back up with Solid State Records after a two-album dalliance with Razor & Tie. Dark, propulsive, passionate, and even a bit progressive in spots, the 13-track set mines sonic vistas both familiar and uncharted, blazing its own trail via future live favorites like "Synthetic Sun" and the the roof-raising lead single "1,000,000 Watts."

Album of the year!!!

Norma Jean have been making masterpieces since their debut. I already had high expectations but after 1 listen I was completely blown away. Cory Brandon is an absolute maniac! Easily one of the best vocalists in the genre as well as songwriters. The whole band turned in stellar performances on Polar Similar and this will undoubtedly be on tons of metal best of 2016 lists. Polar Similar just proves even more how important Norma Jean is to heavy music. You don't just listen to their records, they leave you feeling winded. 7 albums in they continue to push their sound and create something even greater than the last. Long Live The Almighty Norma Jean!

As far as I'm concerned, Norma Jean are the gods of rock. They step up their game in the studio, with each and every album. After watching them for the past 12 years or so, I was excited to see the passion that they still have for O' God the Aftermath, and then to go right into the studio in such a comfortable fashion. Hopefully when the full album is released those 5 stars will stay that way.

The Wait is Over.

Get ready for the best album of the year.

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Not to be confused with the late-'70s disco diva (who sang with Chic in 1977 before going solo and scoring a hit with 1978's "Saturday") or the country singer (who enjoyed a successful run in the '60s), this Norma Jean is a Christian alternative metal/metalcore band previously known as Luti-Kriss. Norma Jean adopted a rap-metal approach during their early years; in reviews, the former Luti-Kriss was often described as the Christian equivalent of Limp Bizkit, Korn, (hed) p.e., Methods of Mayhem, or...
