EDITORS’ NOTES

Having already garnered considerable recognition for his songwriting—including a Latin GRAMMY® nomination for 2015’s “Me Sobrabas Tú”—Joss Favela has become one of Mexico’s most prominent voices well before releasing an album. But Hecho o Mano, his debut full-length, reaffirms the Sinaloense's prodigious feel for melody, arrangements, and atmosphere. While the exhilarating “No Vuelvas a Llamarme” is galvanized by bursts of hot brass and dizzying accordion runs, “Cuando Fuimos Nada” is endlessly romantic, with a passionate vocal performance that’s as elegant as it is disarming.

About Joss Favela

Joss Favela is a charting, award-winning songwriter and recording artist equally diverse in Mexican Regional traditions and pop. He began his professional writing and recording career at 13 after performing on Televisia's Código Fama. He released two solo albums over the next two years, La Reynalda (banda songs) and Andar Conmigo (norteño ballads). He moved to Monterrey at 15, became a member of the pop group 3Ball Mty (with Antonio Hernandez and Erick Rincón), and began working as a songwriter in earnest. Over the next decade, his songs graced Mexican television and films and were eventually recorded by Los Recoditos, Julion Alvarez, Noel Torres, Larry Hernandez, La Arrolladora Banda el Limón, and Banda el Recodo, to name a few; all of these songs scored high-ranking chart hits. Favela has won two ASCAP awards -- he was the youngest person ever to win the Composer of the Year award in 2015 -- and has been nominated for several Latin Grammys.

Favela returned to recording in 2015 for Sony. In November, his debut single for the label, "Me Gusta Verte Arrepentida," reached number 25 on the Regional Mexican Songs charts and the Top 20 on various digital charts. The single "Cuando Fuimos Nada" was issued early in 2016 and peaked at number 20. It was followed by the album Hecho a Mano in August. ~ Thom Jurek
