The Well-Tempered Clavier Book I Jeno Jando & Johann Sebastian Back

For those of us who grew up listening to the Bach recordings of Glenn Gould, evaluating this recording by Jeno Jando is problematic. The question is: are our beloved Gould recordings the standard by which all subsequent performances should be judged, or are they so terribly idiosyncratic as to be incomparible. I'm betting on the former (but the latter may also be true). This recording by Jando falls far below the Gould in terms of rhythmic propulsion and harmonic nuance. Where is the drama, the excitement, the personal relationship with music. It has a workman-like feel.

Simply beautiful.

Great range of tempo, one of my favorite CD's of Bach. Lively for its time, and revolutionary. I love it!


This is my favorite rendition of Bach's masterpiece. Jeno Jando is a great pianist. I only wished they broke up the Preludes and Fugues into separate tracks because I mostly love the fugues!
