Album Review

Roots reggae is an international phenomenon, one that's played on every continent, with greater or lesser degrees of success. New York-based John Brown's Body have been doing it well for many years now, with great harmonies and strong melodies, as on "Follow Into Shadow." Singer Elliot Martin is a strong vocalist who brings a huge presence to the disc, most evident on a track like "Resonate." But he's far from being the only focal point — guitarist Kevin Kinsella is excellent throughout. While the band are very convincing in their roots, they haven't completely ignored the last two decades of Jamaican music, as "Blazing Love" shows, tipping more than its hat to raga, and they're also comfortable dipping into R&B for "Not Enough." This is a band that's paid its dues, but also know what it can do, and does it very well indeed. Yet there's more than professionalism at work here; there's passion behind it all, and that's the most important factor.

Why don't you have this album already?

Come on. Who doesn't like reggae? I know that there isn't a person out there who doesn't enjoy a nice little reggae jam session once and a while. If the precedeing statement fits you, or if you are just a die hard reggae fan collecting the best of the best reggae groups out there, well this is one to add to your collection. Pressure Points is JBB's 5th album and even though I don't like comparing them to one another, is surely one of their finest pieces of work. With it's perfect beats, rythm, singing, and lyrics "Pressure Points" shines above the rest in today's reggae world. Hey they could even have given Bob Marley & his Wailers a good run for their money, and im not kidding. Bottom line: If you like good music period, get this album. You will not regret it!

This is the Essential Reggae Album

You know when you're looking for that perfect CD, but can't seem to find it? Well, Pressure Points is definitely the perfect reggae CD. While it's different from their other albums, it's different in a better way. Each song is unique, and stands alone. My favorite is track two, Heart and Soul. It's got a great reggae beat that makes you wanna dance. Not to mention amazing horn sections. Any way you look at it, JBB is an amazing Reggae band, and Pressure Points is an amazing album.

:) Aloha

Named in honor of the legendary abolitionist, reggae unit John Brown's Body was led by singer/guitarist Kevin Kinsella, a longtime fan of Caribbean music who formed the group Tribulations while attending college in Boston in 1989. Three years later they took top honors in the annual Yamaha Soundcheck contest, touring Japan as a result; in 1993 Tribulations also recorded in Jamaica, releasing the LPs The Gate and Daddy Good Pieces before disbanding. Striving for a more organic roots reggae sound,...
