Editors’ Notes

A legendary producer/emcee from Queens, Large Professor is a golden-era icon who continues to make exceptional hip-hop after more than 20 years in the game. He got his start in the late '80s, working with luminaries like Paul C, Rakim, Kool G Rap, and his own group, Main Source. He also discovered Nas and contributed several tracks to Illmatic, and has spent the last two decades working with everyone from A Tribe Called Quest and Slick Rick to Joell Ortiz and Torae. Professor @ Large is his sixth solo album (following 2009's excellent but slept-on The LP), giving us a great mix of soulful, neck-bending beats and intelligent yet funky wordplay. The star-studded guest list includes Queens compatriots like Cormega and Tragedy ("Focused Up"), forgotten favorites Mic Geronimo and Grand Daddy IU ("Mack Do Illz"), and fellow O.G. Busta Rhymes ("Straight from the Golden"), plus young bucks Action Bronson, Roc Marciano, and Saigon ("M.A.R.S.") As expected, this is top-notch boom-bap as only Large Pro can do it.

Straight Thoroughbred!

At 37 years old, I'm getting to the point with hip-hop where I need to read a resume before buying a new artist's album. That's not the case here-- Professor at Large is hip-hop pedigree in action! Large Pro's a hip-hop blue blood, a member of a longstanding auditory aristocracy that's, if we're not careful, on the verge of extinction. Thank god these guys are still making albums. This album is fresh (i.e., the beats aren't over-engineered and the lyrics typify bravado without braggadocio). There ain't nothing 'snake eyes' about this album! If you're a real hip-hop head and you don't cop this, then it's time to take a long hard look at the front door! Thanks LP!

One of the Best

Big up to the legendary Large Pro! Always great production; always great mic skills. Can't wait to listen front to back!

Album Of The Year

I am proud to say that I have been a huge fan of Large Professor for a while now so I was hyped when I first heard M.A.R.S., which is probably the best posse cut that has been made in like a while. The rest of the album doesn't fall short either… energetic rhymes and energetic beats. Glad to know that Mic Geronimo is still rapping. Check out the tracks Key to the City, Uknowhatimsayin, matter fact the whole thing. This is a true gem that needs to be checked out by hip hop fans.

Widely known initially for his work as a producer and MC with the rap group Main Source, Large Professor soon after became a full-time producer working with such acts as Big Daddy Kane and A Tribe Called Quest. Professor originally became involved in rap when he won a tryout held by Main Source members K-Cut and Sir Scratch in 1989. Contributing significantly to the creative direction of the group, Professor eventually broke with Main Source over creative differences. He then lent his hand to albums...
