Album Review

According to your parents, you are only as good as the company you keep. So it bears mentioning that it didn't take long for Remy Zero's ambiguous acoustica to find a home in the ears of Radiohead as well as — to a much, much lesser extent — Travis and Sting. No wonder. Situated against the youthful excesses of the British indie contingent or the shy "roots"-obsessed American underground, Villa Elaine shows the band off as duty-bound traditionalists. The doo wop dollop "Hollow" folds over your backside like a cozy blanket, with a march-like drumbeat and August Cinjun Tate's best Thom Yorke karaoke impersonation. These songs echo a newly discovered idea for soft acoustic "rock" tunes. This is certainly true of "Gramarye" or the grumbling on "Wither Vulcan." "Motorcycle" mixes some sensual, shackled, A Storm in Heaven-style guitar with a trickling (almost country) vocal. "Goodbye Little World" is a spry Beatlesque drill of strumming chords and homely reunion.

Customer Reviews

I once had Marigolds for Eyes....

I can't believe i'm the only one to write a review of this album... it's an old(ish.... ten years) album. Life in Rain is (in my opinion) the best song on the album..... followed by FAIR and GRAMARYE... but the whole album is excellent. I wish Remy Zero was still alive :(

I saw only one review and had to add my 2cents. This band broke up cause they couldn't break thru to the next level. If they can't do it kids, neither can you. So stash the guitars and start selling insurance. It's a cold, coldplay world out there.

You'll regret just buying one.

I love this entire album. Don't just buy Fair and Prophecy because the entire album rocks!

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s

Birmingham, AL-based Remy Zero dared to be moody and poetic when most American alternative rock had become overly aggressive and juvenile. Consisting of childhood friends Cinjun Tate (vocals, guitar), Cedric Lemoyne (bass), Jeffrey Cain (guitar), Shelby Tate (guitar, keyboards), and Gregory Slay (drums), Remy Zero was merely a group of schoolboys recording homemade tapes. In the mid-'90s, the band sent a demo to community radio station KCRW in Santa Monica, CA. It attracted the attention of Geffen...
