Album Review

The Smalltown Poets' eponymous debut album is a pleasant collection of mature, latter-day jangle-pop, sounding like a cross between the Gin Blossoms, Toad the Wet Sprocket and the Rembrandts. Although the group hasn't written anything as catchy as their idols' big hits, Smalltown Poets, with its gentle acoustic guitars and harmonies, is an engaging record for fans of those groups.

Excellent album!

I bought this CD back in high school but, due to several moves and overall lack of organization, lost it several years ago. Needless to say, I was so pleased to find that iTunes now carried this album, along with other STP titles. This was the kind of music I lived for so many years ago and, thankfully, the album has lost none of its appeal. You don't need to be a fan of Christian music to appreciate the music, the lyrics, or the message in any of these songs. Highlights: "Anymore" and "Trust". If you like Jars of Clay and other bands of that strain, you're sure to love STP.

A Great Album!

The first song that I heard from this album was Prophet, Priest and King. But I couln't find this album anywhere, so I requested it on the iTunes store about a year ago and again about six months ago. Just last night I went to Best Buy and bought it. Now iTunes has it with a hidden track not on the CD for less than what I paid. Definately worth every penny.

Great Album

Unfortunately, some bands just never get their due. Forget "Christian" music, this album would stand up in any genre. It's just plain good. If you like SmallTown Poets, you have to have this album. Period.
