Album Review

Sentido may offer a better portrait of Eddie Palmieri than any of the compilations. "Puerto Rico" is typical of his anthemic, crowd-rousing capability. "No Pienses Asi" is an affecting ballad that rivals those of musicians considered more as singers than Palmieri. "Condiciones Que Existen" is just funky enough to sound like an outtake from the great Harlem River Drive album. "Adoracion" begins spacily but soon becomes, over the course of nine delicious minutes, a hefty jam. "Cosas del Alma" is another ballad. It may be only a half hour of music, but no one will miss the filler. The liners credit Palmieri's fasting as an ingredient in his success; clearly he understands the importance of "leaving them hungry for more."

Excellent, but....

I was extremely happy to see this EP on iTunes. As the other reviewer stated, there is an error on the last cut. I have sent the following email to Apple: I recently downloaded the EP Sentido. There is an obvious "needle skip" noise on the last few seconds Adoracion and during the first 3 minutes of Cosas del Alma. This makes Cosas del Alma unlistenable. I noticed another user had the same issue. This is the first time I have experienced such an error. Please resample Adoracion and Cosas del Alma and allow those of us who have downloaded the complete EP another, corrected download. Thank you, Alan Petsche

Great EP except for the scratched original record

"Puerto Rico" is smoking and Condiciones is an interesting shot at Latin funk/rock, but beware of the ballad Cosas del Alma - there is an annoying, and track-ruining scratch throughout the song.

Eddie Palmieri is one of the foremost Latin jazz pianists, blessed with a technique that fuses such ubiquitous jazz influences as the styles of Herbie Hancock, Thelonious Monk, and McCoy Tyner into a Latin context. No purist, he has also shown a welcome willingness to experiment with fusions of Latin and non-Latin music. Like his older brother Charlie, Eddie started playing at an early age (eight) and studied classical piano while also playing drums. He made his professional debut with Johnny Segui's...
