Editors’ Notes

Coming just seven years and one studio album after its previous live album—1988's Delicate Sound of ThunderPulse might seem a tad redundant, particularly considering Pink Floyd had never released a live album in its time with Syd Barrett or Roger Waters. But the chief draw here is that the remaining three members—guitarist David Gilmour, keyboardist Richard Wright, and drummer Nick Mason—were performing the complete Dark Side of the Moon as part of the tour's second set. (This was long before the trend of playing an older album from beginning to end had become commonplace.) The recordings were made during the trio's 1994 tour of The Division Bell in Europe, and tunes are pulled from more than 20 shows. Among the non-Dark Side material, two tracks from A Momentary Lapse of Reason and five from The Division Bell are featured alongside "Astronomy Domine" from the Syd Barrett era and the hits "Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)" and "Comfortably Numb" from the Roger Waters era.

Pink Floyd grounded that limitless sound with exacting explorations of mundane matters of ego, mind, memory, and heart, touching upon madness, alienation, narcissism, and society on their concept albums of the '70s. Of these concept albums, Dark Side of the Moon resonated strongest,...
