Album Review

There's nothing new on Universal Latino's Paquito Guzmán collection Pura Salsa that fans wouldn't have heard before (every song on it is also on the label's Oro Salsero: 20 Exitos, and most of them are found on Serie Millennium 21), with favorites like "Se Nos Rompio el Amor," "Cinco Noches," "Tu Amante," and "25 Rosas" all included. This just means that Pura Salsa is a pretty pointless album for anyone who has even one of Guzmán's best-ofs (in particular one of those previously mentioned), though the sound quality is pretty decent, which isn't always the case with this kind of thing. But for a neophyte wishing to introduce himself to the work of a great salsero, Pura Salsa, though it has just 14 songs, isn't a bad choice.

For more Paquito, see THE PUERTO RICO ALL STARS!!!

He did 3 great songs with the PUERTO RICO ALL STARS. He was young and his voice was in top form. "Regino Suarez", "A Mi Manera", and "Canto A Borinquen". The 3 recordings by this group rank with the best salsa recordings ever made!!! Check them out and see. From one salsero to many others!
