Album Review

Based out of the industrial, lakeside town of Muskegon, Michigan’s Pop Evil specialize in the kind of hard-hitting, relatively simplistic, AOR rock that dominates radio stations with names like “The Hammer” and “The Grind.” Cut from the same pair of ripped-up jeans as acts like Hinder, Daughtry, and Nickelback, Pop Evil's sophomore effort, War of Angels, is about as solid a modern, post-grunge record as one could hope for; cuts like opener “Last Man Standing,” the token ballad “Let it Go,” and the vamped-up, Buckcherry-esque sex romp “Boss’s Daughter” sound like they’ve been on modern rock radio since the late '90’s — but it breaks little new ground.

Depends on what you like....

'Skilled narc' obviously didn't listen very closely to "Let it Go" and neither did 'eddie10vedder'- so you hear what you want; that tune is a work of musical art as is "Monster you Made"! So they might appreciate Shinedown who appreciated Nirvana-esque sound and Cobain appreciated Morrison and so on- bands evolve- there are no more undiscovered notes- it's all in how a band or someone interprets them. Some like it soft and mellow, some like it mid stream, some like it rock hard and some like loads of synth's and electronica- to each his own. But these dudes are not droppings from Papa Roach or any other band you wimpy, wannabe critic- not when they bang out 400 concerts in 2 years and still manage to put out an album that has some ORIGINAL tracks on it if you take a listen! Problem with critics is they haven't a clue- which is why they like to critique. These are hard working rock and rolling dudes to crank out 400+ concerts in 2 years and an album to boot and i may not like all the tracks but that one tune is worth the price of the album. Remember what mommy taught you; if you cannot say anything nice about someone or something then you shouldn't say anything at all. Got it 'Skilled Narc'? - good name to- you kiss the mirror each morning i bet as well! Just remember to say 'soy un peredor' after each kiss! Beck would appreciate that! Rock ON POP EVIL- SMACK US with more tunes like 'Let it go' that just come out of nowhere and knock you out! Bravo! Keep evolving and keep surprising us !!

Awesome!

These guys are original, and put on the best show i've ever seen live! Go see them if you get the chance!!! Great music!

Awesome

Years Active: '00s

Melodic post-grunge outfit Pop Evil formed in Grand Rapids, MI, in November 2001 with a sound that took cues from the likes of Pearl Jam and Soundgarden, aptly putting the quartet right in line with popular modern rock acts such as Crossfade, Shinedown, and Puddle of Mudd. Including former members of various area bands (such as TenFive), Pop Evil is comprised of vocalist/guitarist Leigh Kakaty — who also raps under the name Kakaty (aka the Harem King), releasing the 2003 album A Balla Story...
