Not the same No Doubt

Before you read this review, know that I am an "Old School" No Doubt fan, so take mo review with a grain of salt.

To me Tragic Kingdom was the pinnacle of no doubt. I liked every song on the CD and many of them are still on my current ipod playlists. The band had a few successful songs since that album, however not with the same flavor that I loved in the older music. When I heard the band was getting back together I was ecstatic and skeptical. Well it seems I had reason to be since this album is NOTHING like their old music. It sounds like pop music edited in a studio which is nothing like their old stuff.

If you are looking to buy this album in anticipation of hearing the old No Doubt style of music, then PLEASE do not buy this album. If you want something new and fresh, then this is the album for you.

Without a doubt!

I like how their comeback release sounds like they have evolved while maintaining that familiar core distinct to No Doubt. There's a little bit of everything on this album -- hints of electronic, reggae, and alternative -- all unfolding with crafty cohesiveness. Truly glad to see/hear them together again.

I've heard it all and I love it.

I hear people complaining, it's not the same no doubt or it isn't no doubt at all. Tell me, where you the same as you were 20 years ago? No. People change constantly to improve and better themselves. That's what no doubt did here. They have improved and moved forward with the music industry while still keeping the essence of what brought them to popularity in the beginning. It's a great album all the songs have meaning and it's just fun to listen. They did a great job and I hope they come to Kansas pretty soon :)

With the return of the punks in the mid-'90s came a resurgence of their slightly more commercial rivals, new wave bands. No Doubt found a niche as a new wave/ska band, on the strength of vocalist Gwen Stefani's persona -- alternately an embrace of little-girl-lost innocence and riot grrrl feminism -- exemplified on the band's break-out single, "Just a Girl." Formed in early 1987 as a ska band inspired by Madness, the lineup of No Doubt initially comprised John Spence, Gwen Stefani, and her brother...
