iTunes Review

While the orchestrated beauty of "See You in Dreams" should capture the imagination of any Beatles fan who marveled at "Eleanor Rigby" and "The Fool on the Hill," Sam Phillips is still mostly known only by fans who've gone hoarse from shouting about the singer/songwriter's talents for decades. Push Any Button continues Phillips' streak of writing baroque adult pop songs; if there were a better defined market for adult pop, her hooks would be ringing everywhere. Phillips is always a bit complicated, and her smart arrangements mean that even her rockers ("Things I Shouldn't Have Told You") have something pulling them back from revealing their whole selves. (That's maturity for you!) Even though it's less than a half-hour, Push Any Button features several moments that will keep observant listeners coming back. In the compact "Going," a minute and a half says so much; on "You Know I Won't," Phillips suggests she's aware of the Sun Records connection in her name. And on "No Time Like Now," she might be somewhat optimistic. But you'll have to listen again to be sure.

Another slam dunk for Sam

This album is amazing from beginning to end. No fillers. Track after track is an amazing work of poetry and melody. You find yourself listening it over and over again.

Enjoyed the upbeat sound!

I enjoy this album as much as any she’s done in recent years. It brought out more of the upbeat, positivity I believe she carries in her heart. Pretty much every song here is catchy.
BTW, my wife and I have followed Sam for years, even before she went by “Sam.” She sang at a wedding as a teenager. Listening to her was more of the highlight than the couple tying the knot! Great to see her evolve in every way.

"It's like walking under starlight in the day time..."

Sam doesn't disappoint. Another amazing album from beginning to end. After listening to it straight through you want play it again, and again.

The acid pop singer/songwriter born Leslie Phillips earned the nonsensical nickname "Sam" as a child; only when she was recording her debut album did she finally hear of the other, more renowned Sam Phillips and learn of his legacy as the founder of Sun Records, the label which launched the careers of Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis. In retrospect, however, her relative distance from the history and conventions of pop music may have been in her favor and accounted for the fresh perspective her...
