iTunes Review

Less a debut album than an introductory note to a young recording artist who has plenty of options on the table, The End of History is a deliberately stark, acoustic offering that sounds more like a field recording than a finished studio master. This sketchbook approach, mixed by the Cocteau Twins’ Simon Raymonde whose Bella Union label released the album in the UK, makes for intriguing intimacy, concentrating all focus on the young Irish troubadour’s whispered vocals and his various lyrical approaches. Eventually, Regan will need to shuffle the deck with more elaborate arrangements, but here he manages to hold the intensity as he ranges from the detail-oriented “Put a Penny in the Slot” to the impressionistic vagueness of “Hunters Map,” recalling the softer sides of Ray LaMontagne and fellow countryman Damien Rice. Strings and vibes tastefully augment “The Underwood Typewriter” and piano supports “Blackwater Child” suggesting Regan will eventually take his raw, folk beginnings and style them towards slightly more manicured chamber pop.

Stellar Album

This is one you must have. A great album, even better when heard through studio headphones. I had to order this from Ireland 2 months ago as I-Tunes had not yet heard of Fionn. Fantastic guitar playing, smooth songwriting, and unique lyrics define this record. It stays fresh after each listen. Buy it!

a remarkable find

best new folk i've heard in god knows how long. stunning lyricism. addictive and immersing melodies. inventive. i do not get tired of this album. it only gets richer as you get inside the songs. buy it.

really fine work

At first, I admit, I was a little skeptical since one of Fionn's songs was on the free list where most of the songs are the only good ones on their albums, but I listened anyways. I closed my eyes and put on 'hunters map' and thought of a bike ride through the woods on a beach cruiser; comfortable yet exciting. Regan is an exceptionally fine folk artist and anyone who likes folk music will not mistake this gem. ' Put a Penny In the Slot', 'Hunters Map' and 'Bunker or Basement' are my personal favorites.

In Great Britain, Fionn Regan is signed to Bella Union Records, an atmospheric dream pop label owned by former Cocteau Twin Simon Raymonde and home to acts like Robin Guthrie's ultra-atmospheric Violet Indiana. In the United States, Fionn Regan is signed to Lost Highway Records, an alternative country and roots rock imprint that's home to Lyle Lovett, Lucinda Williams, and Tift Merritt. The impressive thing is that the engaging singer and songwriter is a perfect fit for both labels. Born and raised...
