Album Review

Traditional salsa, ballad, funk, and even hip-hop are the ingredients in another excellent Gilberto Santa Rosa production. Imagination runs wild as everything in this recording clicks with excitement. Watch out for "Si No Me Ven Llorando" (arranged by Bobby Valentín) and the lyrical, bittersweet "A la Distancia de un Te Quiero" (arranged by Jeremy Lubbock). ~ José A. Estévez, Jr., Rovi

One of the Greatest!

Expresion - Truly one of Mr. Santa Rosa's Magnum Opus, it is a great album and adored by everyone who loves salsa. Incomparable music with hypnotizing lyrics that seduces one to commit to a relationship, to have someone to love or miss having by one's side. In short, it is a great album that you will enjoy. Guys, if you want to impress that secret crush, this is how you'll get that date you've been wanting; and ladies, after you here these songs you'll forget all of the bad qualities that your boyfriend's possess (just kidding). Get the album, you'll regret not getting it sooner.

If you like this, then check out LA TROPICA "Tropical Moods"!!!!!

If you like good swinging salsa, then check out the group LA TROPICA. I tunes posted the 2nd of their two recordings. "Tropical Moods". This where Gilberto's musical director, Tommy Villariny, began his career. The albums were recorded and released by COMBO RECORDS when TOMMY VILLARINY (Gilberto Santa Rosa) & EDGARD NEVAREZ (Rafy Leavitt- Tommy Olivencia) graduated from The Berkeley School of Music in Boston. Since then they were dubbed the "BERKELEY BOYS". You can here the swinging sounds of Gilberto Santa Rosa & a bit of El Gran Combo here. Tommy went on to direct and arrange Gilberto's first four solo recordings for COMBO RECORDS. Songs like "Cantante De Cartel", "Tu", "Sin Un Amor", "Tengo Una Muneca". Check those out too!!! Cheers!!!

Gilberto Santa Rosa is one of the most esteemed, and certainly one of the most tradition-minded, soneros to rise to fame in the 1980s, and his popularity and acclaim only increased in subsequent decades, as did his stateliness. His style of salsa isn't easily categorized, for he often changes approach from one album to the next. His straight-ahead, dance-oriented albums (e.g., Perspectiva [1991], Auténtico [2004]) as well as his eclectic ones (Esencia [1996], Expresión [1999]) tend to be his most...
