10 Songs, 42 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

For his debut release on the reputed Warp Records imprint, Daniel Lopatin (a.k.a. Oneohtrix Point Never) draws somewhat on the compositional elements from his previous LP, Replica, but pushes them seamlessly to their breaking points—each track is a short film's worth of ideas and range. Referencing any number of touchstones from '90s Internet culture to the subtle ambient works of Aphex Twin, to Oxygene-like swells of cinematic synths, the listener is left with almost zero ability to predict where a track will lead. Yet there's never the sense of being taken unexpectedly—Oneohtrix turns sound on its head to bring you to the place you're meant to go, which is sometimes many places at once.

Phenomenal....

.....does not adequately describe this man's music. He is the answer to all the prayers uttered by fans of classic Tangerine Dream, Future Sound of London, Laurie Anderson, Terry Riley, Jean-Michel Jarre, Klaus Schulze & Shpongle...i.e., those of us who'd feared that the great days of truly experimental electronic music were far, far behind us, never to be heard again. The cited examples could give you a fair idea of the style of his music, but it's the unearthly SOUND that grips you in its clutches immediately and reminds you that YES, this is a voice that WILL be heard. I don't know what degree of (...wait for it...) success Daniel is aiming for, but he can rest easily knowing that he has already achieved artistic superstardom. What he does here and on REPLICA is simply too astounding for words....you must take it upon yourself to check him out. My guess is, if original, otherworldly electronica is your forte', you will--like me--walk away from your first taste, slack-jawed, unable to speak, and hungering for more.

Fantastic

This artist is just great. This album will ride waves through you. I saw him open for Sigur Rós. What a pleasant surprise that turned out to be. Buy it, you will not be disappointed in the slightest.
