Music to soothe the Lonely Heart

All of Get Set Go's albums reflect their a terrific wit and depth of emotion, and their newest is no different. Their average song takes a feeling of deep anguish and manages to speak about it in a way that is both relatable and clever all at once. They ahve a way of making you want to feel sad, want to be alone...almost. It's a sentiment that recalls utter loneliness while backing it with music that can transform it into joy.'s a contradiction. Like a lot of good things.

All the songs on this album are amazing, but here are a few to start with: the title track, Fury of Your Lonely Heart, is a power number of desperate sex; We Will Be Stars involves setting yourself on fire to burn beautifully; Racecar is a fantasy of escape; but I think the best track is Little Bird Lost, a tale of distant love, and loving so hard and desperately it hurts...possibly to death.

Oh--and I almost didn't mention that GSG adds a viola into the rock mix. The viola parts in the tracks are highly considered and well written, going very well thematically with each track. It is just a nice thing that sets them apart from the pack (along with their great songwriting).

Check them out--I am sure you will enjoy.

Awe and the gravity well of wonder

Fury of Your Lonely Heart is a genuinely wonderful album. It finds balance in its dichotomy, whether it be between frenetic escapades and lulled serenades of longing, or contrasting deeply-rooted agony with fleeting jocundity. As if pulling from such resonant trenches of anguish wasn't enough to distinguish this album, every song is beautifully cogent and twined with some of Get Set Go's best sound to date. If this is a sign of things to come, these guys are going to create a gravity well of wonder which will grow intenser by the album to the point of some mystical black hole of awesome music from which nothing will be able to escape in the best possible way. I look forward to this day.

Revolving around songwriter Mike TV, Get Set Go's quirky rock consists of dismal, self-loathing lyrics set to sunny melodies. In fact, Mike TV's goal was to have lyrics so dreadful, yet memorable, that his grandparents would disapprove. Inspired by such greats as Guided by Voices, the Beach Boys, Weezer, and the Mr. T Experience, he and his band released a debut, So You've Ruined Your Life, in 2003. The follow-up modified the band's sound, going from nearly pop-punk to indie rock with Ordinary World....
