2 Thumbs Down

Doesn't sound like he's "pushing the musical envelope" to me. Just another throw-back imitation. I consider myself a retired fan of Saadiq.

The Brilliance of an Underrated artist

'Radio' is both a retro 50's sounding rock record. and a continuation of Saadiq's sound on 'The Way I See It'. Not a lot of R&B records these days show this much emotion vocally, and certainly don't beat and rock out as much as the drums do on this track. Saadiq is a music legend that keeps on pushing the musical envelope, so it's only right that this record doesn;t sound like anything else that's out right now (that's a good thing), and if this is what's to come with his new album 'Stone Rollin', 2011 is going to be in for some good music. If you can get into Chuck Berry, The Beatles, Jackie Wilson, etc, from way back when this get a listen to this.

Creative and a Lot of Fun

Since his days with Tony! Toni! Tone!, Raphael Saadiq has been willing to push the boundaries of R&B music and his latest single "Radio" finds him continuing the throwback/retro vibe of "The Way I See It". On "Radio", Saadiq incorporates elements of the guitar and beach music of the early 60's and creates a thoroughly enjoyable listening experience and a welcome departure from much of the music that constitutes contemporary R&B and pop. I eagerly await his upcoming album and hope that commercial radio embraces "Radio" because it is a lot of fun.
