One of my all-time favorites!!

This was my first AJ album, and was purchased during a time when I was just spreading my musical-listening wings in the jazz idiom. This album has never lost it's appeal, because the performances are just so incredible. It is ageless and timeless. The musical cast is top-notch and they play tightly, musically, and unselfishly. AJ himself is at the top of his game on this set... and the magical performances caught here remain as fresh as the day of release. "Could You Believe" is like attending a church service, he sings with such deep feeling and belief... singing and preaching and taking us along on an uplifting musical ride... it always deserves a second listen! "Better Than Anything" is a playful yet touching love song. What fun to listen to! "Take Five" showcases his mastery of rhythm, syncopation, and improvisation as he weaves his way through the Brubeck classic almost effortlessly. "We Got By" is a song that tells of both the stinging pain of poverty, and power of the human spirit in the face of hardship. This is one of the "must have" jazz albums of all time!!

Simply one of the best

This album is superb. I say album because I originally purchased the LP, then the CD and now I have downloaded it. The song selection is great and Al is at his finest. I love the energy of the crowd and Al's interaction with them. This live set is perfect to have in the background during intimate moments with someone you me. To sample Al Jarreau and get hooked... download this.

The real Al Jarreau

The is without a doubt his finest work in the jazz idiom. I really thought that he would continue his career in this style. Unfortunenately he decided to work with more commercial material. At the top of his game there were few who could rival his scat ability. My favorites: Letter Perfect, Rainbow in your eyes, Burst in with the dawn, Better than anything, Take Five, Loving you and We got by. If you've never heard this album before be prepared for an amazing journey with this artist. Enjoy!
