Compilation of covers

"Rainbow" was originally released by MCA in 1973, after Diamond had moved on to Columbia. The songs here were originally released on "Touching You, Touching Me," "Tap Root Manuscript" and "Stones." But the album sounds surprisingly cohesive, due to the similarity of the arrangements – heavy on the acoustic guitar/piano/bass/percussion sound of Diamond's early years, with an awful lot of strings layered on. "Suzanne," "Last Thing On My Mind" and "Everybody's Talkin'" work well; "Husbands and Wives" and "I Think It's Gonna Rain Today" fare worse.
