What is James Carter doing right now...

This feels like a classic jazz album from the 50's or 60's. Simple, bluesy tunes with well-developed solos that let you know what is going on right now. It's partly James' tunes, partly classics from artists like Gryce and Kirk.

Ahhh, Music to my Ears.

Absolutely, beautiful stuff. I have not heard this kind of "back-to-basic" jazz in a long, long time. "Pour Que Ma Vie Demeure" and "Sussa Nita" happen to be a pair of nice, slow bits; while "Hymn of the Orient" is one rockin’ piece. This album definitely belongs to any jazz enthusiast's collection.


Thanks, iTunes for putting some straight-ahead jazz on the home page. It's well-deserved placement for this young lion of accoustic jazz.
