Impressive Ravel

For Yuja Wang fans this album is a no-brainer, brash and bold in the G-Major Concerto, dark, deep and movingly emotional in the Left Hand, a bit of a surprise even for the technically stellar Wang. The Ballade is a choice extra.

For the rest of us, this pairing fine as it is will not replace your favorite recording. There is too much talent, maturity and artistry among the competition to be eclipsed by Wang. However, the D Concerto is very well worth acquiring on its own merits. Bringuier and the Tonhalle Zurich orchestra are ideal partners for Ms. Wang, warm, supportive, and colorful.
