iTunes Review

Widely considered to be among hip-hop’s best street lyricists, Cormega has endured many highs and lows over the course of some 15 years in the game. Major-label fiascos, a shelved debut album, and high-profile beef with a former Queensbridge compatriot would be enough to discourage most emcees, but Mega just keeps it moving, starting his own successful indie label (Legal Hustle) and building an impressive discography that may elude mainstream airwaves but is keeping his international fanbase hungry for more. On Raw Forever, he treats us to a double album's worth of material. As usual, it's fantastic. The first half is a best-of collection, with quintessential joints like the revenge-rap classic "Dead Man Walking," the Mobb Deep collabo "Killaz Theme," and the Premier-produced "Dirty Game." The second half finds him recording with the New York funk outfit The Revelations (best known for their work on Wu-Tang's Chamber Music and Legendary Weapons), who provide live instrumentation on new renditions of 11 previously released jams. It’s more great stuff from Mega Montana, with guest spots from AZ, Tragedy, KRS-One, and Big Daddy Kane, among others.

Mega is one of my top 5 favorite lyricists, and I listen to a lot of Hiphop both new and old, commercial and underground. His flow and lyricism are highly addicting. I recommend this and all other albums from mega montana

An underground and critical favorite, Cormega was the rare hardcore rapper to win praise from all directions, and while he never quite crossed over like some of his New York City peers, he maintained a respectable independence over the years nonetheless, self-releasing his work on the Legal Hustle label. Born Cory McKay, Cormega grew up in the same Queensbridge housing projects that were home to a generation of rappers, most notably Nas, Mobb Deep, AZ, and Tragedy Khadafi, and a previous generation...
