Notas editoriales de iTunes

For their third studio album, Scotland’s Camera Obscura make heart-skipping pop music that’s often sad and down but never out. Tracyanne Campbell may like to get her melancholy mope on but she always does so with a twinkle in her eye and a deep-rooted belief that music can salvage, if not save, the romantic soul. “Lloyd, I’m Ready To Be Heartbroken” responds to Lloyd Cole’s question “Are You Ready To Be Heartbroken?” with a fan’s swooning admiration. “I Need All the Friends I Can Get” turns cynical and brutally honest, telling off the very friends Campbell is trying to keep on her side. “Dory Previn” twists towards country, while “Country Mile” and “Tears For Affairs” stroll more down a light-hearted groove. With the help of producer Jari Haapalainen, a heavy, unrelenting sorrow expands the group’s musical attack to suggest they’ve fully digested the works of Jimmy Webb, Lee Hazlewood, and their personal promoters Belle and Sebastian to come up with their own winning combination.

Lilting and Sad

i liked CO's last release "Underachievers Please Try Harder" well enough, but "Let's Get Out of This Country" is truly wonderful. it features wistful songs ("Razzle Dazzle Rose" with its longing trumpet solo) to upbeat 60's pop ("Lloyd, I'm Ready to Be Heartbroken" with its cool church organ). other standouts include "If Looks Could Kill" - another foot-stomper - and the lovely, loungy "Tears for Affairs". there's a bit of Motown, Phil Spector, Burt Bacharach, and UK pop all over the place. one thing i truly love is that even when there's an infectiously danceable song, the lyrics are still quite sad. Camera Obscura really puts the two together well.

The Scottish ensemble Camera Obscura formed in 1996, when vocalist Tracyanne Campbell, percussionist John Henderson, bassist Gavin Dunbar, and guitarist David Skirving began creating lush indie pop with orchestral flourishes and romantic lyrics. They went on to release a number of singles, one of which included contributions from Belle & Sebastian's Richard Colburn, whose band served as a stylistic touchstone for the young Camera Obscura. Three years after the band's first releases, Lee Thompson...
