Album Review

Late-'90s alternative competitors Jimmie's Chicken Shack have returned with a new label, a new lineup, and a new, boldly serious stripe in their loudmouth funk metal. In fact, that stripe overtakes most of Re.present. First single "Fallin' Out" is a collaboration with professional soul searcher Aaron Lewis, who also contributes backing vocals. The song utilizes a template similar to Lewis' work with Staind as its meditates on addiction and hope. "Quitter" and "Dead Sleep" are more upbeat, suggesting the band's previous dalliances with metal and ska — both turn on the cynical sense of humor very nearly branded by the Offspring. "Happiness" and "Unshaken" are glowering, conventional post-grunge workouts, while late-album entries "Leech" and "Paper Dolls" return to the memorably chunky hooks and raucous spirit that permeated Pushing the Salmanilla Envelope, Jimmie's Chicken Shack's 1997 breakthrough.

??

Maybe I grew out of JCS or maybe the new line up is just crap but I cannot get into this album. I tried.

good stuff!!!

this one was a very good cd, i listen to it often. it was about time they put out a new album! i cant say it was my fav but there are several gems in this one, don't have a specific favorite.

Maybe Not Re.presentative - But Still The Shack

Creeping a little closer to radio-friendly with a new lineup and slightly altered sound from their previous efforts, but still not on the radio...oh well! Still Good!
Fallin' Out, Happiness, Living With Ghosts and Unshaken are probably the closest to the JCS most fans are looking for, and the best tracks here.

Jimmie's Chicken Shack blends funk-metal with elements of ska and reggae but also a surprising acoustic prowess. Lead vocalist Jimmy HaHa grew up in Maryland and played with a group named Ten Times Big for several years. After the band broke up, he hit the snowboarding circuit for two years but then began several acoustic jams with friends. HaHa recruited drummer Jim Chaney (from Ten Times Big), longtime friend Che' Lemon on bass, and guitarist Dave Dowling (aka Double D) to form Jimmie's Chicken...
