Editors’ Notes

In 2011, Pearl Jam's albums were remastered and reissued in a variety of editions. This issue adds three bonus cuts to the band's multiplatinum second album, Vs., including the concert favorite "Crazy Mary"—a song written by Victoria Williams (who sings backup and plays guitar) and that originally appeared on the 1993 tribute album Sweet Relief: A Benefit for Victoria Williams. "Cready Stomp" and the acoustic "Hold On" were outtakes from the Vs. sessions. As for the original album, it features ferocious musicianship throughout, due to producer Brendan O'Brien's decision to have the band set up in the studio the same as it would for a live concert. The fierce chemistry driving "Go," "Animal," "Glorified G" (about gun violence), "Blood," and "Rats" was tempered by the reflective acoustic tunes "Daughter" and "Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town," plus the truly transcendent and dynamic epic "Rearviewmirror" and the elegiac album closer "Indifference."

Customer Reviews

Great album!

Easily Pearl Jam's second best album (Ten is miles ahead, but this is still great!). Animal, Glorified G, WMA, Rats, Elderly Woman, and Indifference are the best. Daughter is slightly overrated. My least favorite song on this album is probably Dissident. It's ok, but I don't care for it. WMA is one of the greatest Pearl Jam songs in their entire career. Dave Abbruzzese was probably my favorite PJ drummer. Buy this album. It's much better than Nirvana.

Pearl Jam's best!

I still think this is thier best record. And the re-issue makes it better.

vs. Remastered

I have been waiting for this since 1993. This album needs to be played very loud. This album makes me feel ALIVE. Thank you Pearl Jam for making this happen.

Pearl Jam rose from the ashes of Mother Love Bone to become the most popular American rock & roll band of the '90s. After Mother Love Bone's vocalist, Andrew Wood, overdosed on heroin in 1990, guitarist Stone Gossard and bassist Jeff Ament assembled a new band, bringing in Mike McCready on lead guitar and recording a demo with Soundgarden's Matt Cameron on drums. Thanks to future Pearl Jam drummer Jack Irons, the demo found its way to a 25-year-old San Diego surfer named Eddie Vedder, who overdubbed...
