iTunes Review

For his 26th solo album, Brian Eno returns to the ambient sound he popularised with 1975’s Discreet Music. As with 1985’s Thursday Afternoon, Reflection consists of just a single track. This is generative music, where Eno programmed a set of sounds to repeat in infinite patterns. There’s an app version where Reflection plays forever—but here, bell tones prick and glimmer, soothing and unsettling in equal measure.

More of the same soporific, swirling...

...reverb drenched, daisy chained Kaoss pads, pablum. That said I'm a longtime fan. My taste for Eno runs from his harder Roxy stuff like Remake, Remodel to his 1st 2 phenomenal solo LP's then skips forward to his groundbreaking work on Bush Of Ghosts, Remain In Light, & The Catherine Wheel. Most of his ambient stuff is weak & appeals to those who like it safer than milk. Sure Lantern Marsh on Ambient 4 and Rising Thermal from Ambient 2 are genre defining & I dig them a lot. I REALLY enjoyed Bone Bomb from Another Day On Earth. So I like & admire some of Eno's softer work. But lately he's lost the ability to sound lean & hungry. That said if any artist deserves to get fat & happy & rest on their laurels it's someone as influential as & who's worked as long and hard as Brian Eno has. But I can't make myself pretend to like an emperor doddering around in depends and not much else. Lean in B. Put your weight on it man. I keep listening out of respect hoping for a return to form. That stuff lately with Byrne & Karl from Orb shows promise but can't ya squeeze out sumpin' Blank Frankish before you shuffle off the coil? If yr gonna do something, do something Dead Finksy.

A breath of fresh air

Beautifully done.

Calming

Reminds me of Thursday Afternoon. Great for sleep time or anytime. Very pleasing sound.

Ambient pioneer, glam rocker, hit producer, multimedia artist, technological innovator, worldbeat proponent, and self-described non-musician -- over the course of his long, prolific, and immensely influential career, Brian Eno was all of these things and much, much more. Determining his creative pathways with the aid of a deck of instructional, Tarot-like cards called Oblique Strategies, Eno championed theory over practice, serendipity over forethought, and texture over craft; in the process, he...
