Album Review

The album that launched a thousand wind machines, Reflections of Passion established Yanni as the face of contemporary instrumental music. While 15 of its songs were culled from earlier releases, it was nevertheless the pianist and composer's popular breakthrough. It propelled him onto the world stage — literally, since he performed concerts in such locales as the Taj Mahal and China's Forbidden City. The exotic places fit Yanni's sweeping compositions, which incorporated crashing percussion and fleets of surging synthesizers to approximate what a wind storm would sound like if it was made of melody. "Nostalgia," "True Nature," and "Farewell" all worked on simplistic, yet extremely powerful piano lines that ebbed and flowed with new age grace. Sure, things could get a bit too soft-focus; tracks like "First Touch" were like delicate menageries teetering on a high shelf. But Yanni's command of straightforward structure and melody helped mainstream Reflections immensely.

New Age Intro

Reflections of passion was the first Yanni I had ever heard. I was instantly changed by a new type of instramental music. It wasn't classical, so I didn't have to feel uncool as a teenager to listen to it. It caused my mind to race with images that tried to match the music. My very favorite was (of course) After the Sunrise. My twin brother and I used to set our CD players timer to wake us in the morning to this song. It is amazing how it affected my soul every mourning. The song floated me awake, starting out soft and quietly waking me, it really made my day better and happier. The album became one of my favorite things to listen to when I wanted to be alone and think, or just imagine, or feel nostalgic. This album rules.

I love the music of farewell

Music that will stand the test of time!

Part of the soundtrack of my life. This album has touched my heart in so many different ways over the last nearly quarter century I can hardly imagine a life without it. Sure it's not the most complex music and it has gotten a little dated over the years but they probably said the same of Bach, Mozart and Beethoven at one time. Also, not sure why it's currently listed as a partial album. As far as I know 15 songs is the full playlist from the time of its release. Enjoy the joy because thats how this albums gonna make you feel! Pure Joy

Of the artists who rose to popularity as part of the new age music boom of the 1980s and '90s, few (if any) enjoyed greater or more lasting success than Yanni. Composing and performing instrumental music with a pronounced sense of drama, dynamics, and romanticism, Yanni broke through to a significantly larger audience than his peers, thanks to adult alternative radio airplay and a commanding performance style that attracted fans through frequent appearances on public television as well as world-wide...
