Good album

1987 was not a great year for funk bands that been out since the 1960s and 1970s, especially when the priority of live bands had started to dwindle down since 1983 (due to electronic instruments replacing them). Despite this, Lakeside stood the test of time. Member, Stephen Shockley produced all the songs (except for the final track, "Love I Can Bank On"), but most of the songwriting duties and instruments on this album were reserved for other personnel such as Babyface, Brownmark (Prince's former bassist who penned the hit song, "Relationship"), and Leon Sylvers III (who hasn't worked with Lakeside since 1979). Despite of the increase in synthetic instruments to shape the change of black and dance music of the late 80s, I actually enjoyed this album. My favorites are "Still Feelin' Good" (written by Babyface and Daryl Simmons), "To Be Your Lover" and "Relationship" it was also known for the album to not include longtime member and falsetto lead, Otis Stokes (who left in 1986 because of his dissatisfaction with the group's direction of moving to what's popular). Like The Whispers' Just Gets Better With Time, Lakeside's Power album is still decent release for SOLAR Records in the late 80s.

The group initially had a record deal with Curtom Records as a result of winning a talent contest in Chicago. However, Curtom folded shortly thereafter. While in Chicago the group renamed itself Lakeside Express, after the Lakeside Express Newspaper in Chicago....
